Birthday Bash at The Hot Shop

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

You may not remember the day you were born or your first birthday, but the folks at Orange Beach Arts Center and The Hot Shop are full of first-year memories and excitement for the future of Alabama’s only public-access glass studio.

You're invited to a birthday bash for The Hot Shop at the Orange Beach Arts Center on Friday, August 20, 2010.

And what a fun evening they have planned to mark the occasion!

From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20, you’ll be treated to a Hot Glass Cold Drinks celebration. Food and drinks are just the beginning, accompanied by the uplifting, sophisticated guitar sounds of Roman Street.

Wander through the Arts Center and around the grounds, and you’ll find all kinds of artistic activities in progress. Glass-blowing demonstrations will be offered by Mark Lupeta, Steve and Dee Burrow will show their process of pottery making, and Opal Young will invite you to watch as she creates a painting.

A public mosaic project will be led by Connie Blum, so don’t pass up your opportunity to add your personal touch. “Bob” the Art Car will be making a special appearance. And you know you can’t pass up a chance at a raffle, especially when it will benefit the Arts Center.

This Birthday Bash is also the opening of the 2010 Members Show. Check out new works by your favorite artists while you discover some new favorites to admire.

Learn more by contacting the Arts Center at 251-981-2787—or simply show up and talk to the Arts Center folks at 26389 Canal Rd. in Orange Beach, east of the Hwy. 161 intersection.

Cheer Up With the Art of “Just Us Folks”

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Scott Thomas and Bonnie Gravette share their joyful artworks at Orange Beach Art Center through Aug. 19, 2010.

They have created a stir. In fact, enough buzz that the folks at the Orange Beach Art Center have asked them to hang around an extra couple of weeks.

What is even more interesting is that it’s their first time to show on the Alabama Gulf Coast. (We’ll guess that it won’t be their last.)

Since June 5, Bonnie Gravette of Memphis, Tennessee and Scott Thomas of Cloudland, Georgia have shared their brightly colored, whimsical artwork with our part of the world. And the timing of it—purely by fate—couldn’t be better to lift our spirits. Passing through the exhibit, you’ll feel lighter and you’ll find yourself smiling, magically touched by the fun combinations of hues and subjects.

Need a little stress relief? You’ll find it Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., in the Visiting Artist Gallery through August 20. While you are there, take pleasure in viewing all the wonderful local art on display and for sale, and watch artists at work in Alabama’s only public-use glass studio, The Hot Shop.

Exchange your routine—and the heat!—for some cheery art gazing. And if you find you just can’t leave that happy feeling behind, the artists have made their works available for very reasonable prices.

FREE Beach Concert – Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band & More

Monday, June 21st, 2010

It has been nearly 12 years since Jimmy Buffett played for local audiences—a 1998 fundraiser in Mobile benefited hurricane relief efforts. In just a few days, Jimmy will once again lend his musical fame to raise money for the Gulf Coast, this time appearing in Gulf Shores as a response to the oil spill disaster. The concert’s goal is to promote beach tourism and raise money for wildlife-related organizations to better respond to the crisis.

Upon learning of the fundraising effort, some of Jimmy’s friends offered to help out by donating their talents, as well. Joining Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band for this free show are the Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Sonny Landreth, Allen Toussaint and Jesse Winchester.

A large stage will be erected at the west end of the Gulf Shores Public Beach, where attendees will be able to enjoy the performances accompanied by the gentle sounds of the surf on Sunday, July 11. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m., and the first performer will take the stage at 5:00. Cable channel CMT will broadcast live from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

More information will be shared as it becomes available, including other star-studded, benefit beach concerts this summer.

Although admission is free, a ticket is required for entrance—and we can help. If you have a reservation with Meyer Real Estate, you are eligible to register for a pair of tickets. Multiple pairs are available, so your chances of winning are very good! Simply have your confirmation handy, and fill in the registration information by no later than 5:00 p.m. (CDT) on Tuesday, July 6. Winners will be notified on Wednesday, July 7.

WINNER of Hangout Music Fest Weekend!

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

It’s official—we’ve confirmed our winner of The Hangout Music Festival Giveaway!

Excitement is building as the festival approaches! Will you be there?

When he read the e-mail indicating he had won, Robert Sinners—a master’s candidate studying public administration in Columbia, South Carolina—was apprehensive, admitting concern that it might be a joke. But after speaking with Corporate PR Director Sarah Kuzma, he soon realized that the prize was real, and his skepticism turned to excitement.

Robert’s $1,300 prize includes a 3-night stay in a 2-bedroom, gulf-front condominium within walking distance of the festival site. Along with the accommodations, Robert and a guest will be treated to three full days of nearly 60 great bands on the beautiful Alabama coastline.

When he arrives, Robert will be given a disposable camera to capture The Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival from his viewpoint. We will share some of those photos with you, so be sure to bookmark or follow Meyer Real Estate on any of our social media outlets (see below).

It’s not too late! You can still be a part of this inaugural music event at the beach. See the lineup of the bands and listen to their music. Purchase your 3-day pass or single-day tickets today at Hangout Music Festival. Then save 25–33% on accommodations when you rent a condo or house through Meyer Real Estate.

Late April or Early May?

Monday, April 12th, 2010

You already know that a beach vacation is what you want, and you need that getaway sooner rather than later. Things are hectic at home or at work—or maybe both—and it’s been a long, cold winter. You need a little “Ahhh…” factor infused into your life.

The beach offers an escape from the everyday life, even if only for a few days.

What if we offered you a chance to get a free night in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Fort Morgan, Alabama, or Perdido Key, Florida? Meyer Real Estate always gives you the seventh night free. (Actually, you can get your sixth and seventh nights free if you stay by May 26 – click here to get the scoop.)

Are time constraints keeping you from enjoying an entire week at the beach?

No problem! Stay just three nights or four. If you choose a condo, your third night is free. Opt for a house and you’ll get your fourth night free.

Your schedule will only allow two or three nights? Just use your free night as an extended check-out. Sleep in on that last morning, spend the afternoon at the beach, and maybe hang around for dinner before heading home again.

Not once, but TWICE in the next four weeks you’ll find a commemorative day paired with a special offer of third or fourth night free:

* Celebrate Mother Earth when you opt for the Earth Day special and stay between April 20 and 26, 2010. Enjoy nature-related activities such as hiking, biking or birding.

* Celebrate family ties when you opt for the Mother’s Day special and stay between May 5 and 11, 2010. Let Mom choose to shop, dine out or admire items at an arts & crafts fair.

Let Meyer Real Estate’s specials and extra-large variety of vacation properties make it easier to reward yourself with a much-needed beach escape!
