Furry Friends Can Frolic Freely Near the Beach

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

“Run, Spot, run!”

Residents and visitors used to hear (or shout) this quite often along the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach shorelines. When laws were drafted to require our little and not-so-little four-legged friends to be kept on leashes and away from the public beaches, state park, Fort Morgan and wildlife refuge, that command faded away. But now both cities offer a welcome alternative.

Let your best friend play freely at a dog park in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, Alabama.

Recently opened is a fenced area near Sportsman Marina on Canal Road. The Orange Beach Dog Park makes it possible for your pet to enjoy unleashed playtime within its boundaries, thanks to the many folks who donated money and/or time to make this possible. Those in charge obviously had a sense of humor, as the park boasts strategically placed fire hydrants!

Just across the street from the Adult Activity Center and just south of the Bodenhamer Recreation Center in Gulf Shores is the Beason Wilkes Dog Park. Water is available in the small fenced area that will accommodate dogs of all sizes, with smaller dogs in the front and larger dogs just behind it. And yes,  fire hydrants are available there, as well.

If you are planning to bring your dog with you when you visit the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast, Meyer Real Estate will be pleased to help you locate dog-friendly vacation rental properties.

FREE Beach Concert – Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band & More

Monday, June 21st, 2010

It has been nearly 12 years since Jimmy Buffett played for local audiences—a 1998 fundraiser in Mobile benefited hurricane relief efforts. In just a few days, Jimmy will once again lend his musical fame to raise money for the Gulf Coast, this time appearing in Gulf Shores as a response to the oil spill disaster. The concert’s goal is to promote beach tourism and raise money for wildlife-related organizations to better respond to the crisis.

Upon learning of the fundraising effort, some of Jimmy’s friends offered to help out by donating their talents, as well. Joining Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band for this free show are the Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Sonny Landreth, Allen Toussaint and Jesse Winchester.

A large stage will be erected at the west end of the Gulf Shores Public Beach, where attendees will be able to enjoy the performances accompanied by the gentle sounds of the surf on Sunday, July 11. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m., and the first performer will take the stage at 5:00. Cable channel CMT will broadcast live from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

More information will be shared as it becomes available, including other star-studded, benefit beach concerts this summer.

Although admission is free, a ticket is required for entrance—and we can help. If you have a reservation with Meyer Real Estate, you are eligible to register for a pair of tickets. Multiple pairs are available, so your chances of winning are very good! Simply have your confirmation handy, and fill in the registration information by no later than 5:00 p.m. (CDT) on Tuesday, July 6. Winners will be notified on Wednesday, July 7.

WINNER of Hangout Music Fest Weekend!

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

It’s official—we’ve confirmed our winner of The Hangout Music Festival Giveaway!

Excitement is building as the festival approaches! Will you be there?

When he read the e-mail indicating he had won, Robert Sinners—a master’s candidate studying public administration in Columbia, South Carolina—was apprehensive, admitting concern that it might be a joke. But after speaking with Corporate PR Director Sarah Kuzma, he soon realized that the prize was real, and his skepticism turned to excitement.

Robert’s $1,300 prize includes a 3-night stay in a 2-bedroom, gulf-front condominium within walking distance of the festival site. Along with the accommodations, Robert and a guest will be treated to three full days of nearly 60 great bands on the beautiful Alabama coastline.

When he arrives, Robert will be given a disposable camera to capture The Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival from his viewpoint. We will share some of those photos with you, so be sure to bookmark or follow Meyer Real Estate on any of our social media outlets (see below).

It’s not too late! You can still be a part of this inaugural music event at the beach. See the lineup of the bands and listen to their music. Purchase your 3-day pass or single-day tickets today at Hangout Music Festival. Then save 25–33% on accommodations when you rent a condo or house through Meyer Real Estate.

Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history at the first Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, during May 14 through 16, 2010!

Hangout Music Festival Shuttle, Parking and More

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

The Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival, May 14–16, 2010, has just announced its plan to make it easier to get to and from the 3-day weekend’s events.

Share rides, use shuttles, ride bikes - just don't miss The Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival in Gulf Shores May 14–16, 2010!

For those who wish to drive back and forth from their local accommodations, parking will be available along neighborhood roads and other designated parking areas. But the number of spaces is limited, so be prepared to walk a few blocks to the festival entrance.

A better choice might be to catch one of the three shuttles that will be running from 10:00 a.m. to midnight each of the three festival days. Shuttles will accept $3 cash for each ride, or patrons may purchase a wristband for $10 for unlimited rides. Wristbands may be purchased in advance through The Hangout Music Festival site, at the festival headquarters, or as you board the shuttle.

Or do your part for Mother Earth and help cut back on air and noise pollution by renting a bicycle. The official bike rental company for the festival is Orange Beach Bicycles. When not attending concerts, ride the bike paths and explore some of the area’s beautiful surroundings.

If you’re still not sure how you will get into Gulf Shores from your hometown, and would like to share the experience—as well as money and gasoline—check out Zimride to locate people who are looking for a rider.

Event tickets—including 3-day passes, VIP passes and more—are available through The Hangout Music Festival website. Don’t know all the performers at Hangout Music Fest? We can help!

And now you can extend the fun! For just $20 more ($25 at the door) you can attend the indoor late-night concert Friday night at The Hangout, featuring Alex B, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious) and Big Gigantic.

Make your condo or house reservations through Meyer Real Estate, an official sponsor of the festival, and you can receive a FREE night!

Late April or Early May?

Monday, April 12th, 2010

You already know that a beach vacation is what you want, and you need that getaway sooner rather than later. Things are hectic at home or at work—or maybe both—and it’s been a long, cold winter. You need a little “Ahhh…” factor infused into your life.

The beach offers an escape from the everyday life, even if only for a few days.

What if we offered you a chance to get a free night in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Fort Morgan, Alabama, or Perdido Key, Florida? Meyer Real Estate always gives you the seventh night free. (Actually, you can get your sixth and seventh nights free if you stay by May 26 – click here to get the scoop.)

Are time constraints keeping you from enjoying an entire week at the beach?

No problem! Stay just three nights or four. If you choose a condo, your third night is free. Opt for a house and you’ll get your fourth night free.

Your schedule will only allow two or three nights? Just use your free night as an extended check-out. Sleep in on that last morning, spend the afternoon at the beach, and maybe hang around for dinner before heading home again.

Not once, but TWICE in the next four weeks you’ll find a commemorative day paired with a special offer of third or fourth night free:

* Celebrate Mother Earth when you opt for the Earth Day special and stay between April 20 and 26, 2010. Enjoy nature-related activities such as hiking, biking or birding.

* Celebrate family ties when you opt for the Mother’s Day special and stay between May 5 and 11, 2010. Let Mom choose to shop, dine out or admire items at an arts & crafts fair.

Let Meyer Real Estate’s specials and extra-large variety of vacation properties make it easier to reward yourself with a much-needed beach escape!
