Find treasures and create treasured family memories when you set your sails for Piratefest 2011 at Happy Harbor in Orange Beach this weekend, September 16–18.

A weekend of family fun at Piratefest 2011 also raises money for Cystic Fibrosis.

This third annual event promises to be bigger and better than ever, especially with the newly opened addition of a sports bar upstairs, where you can cheer on your favorite football teams.

Outdoor activities include Saturday afternoon devoted to the kids, when they can play on inflatables, learn about various musical instruments, play games, get decked out with painted faces and/or hair wraps, and take part in a treasure hunt. All children will receive a sword and eye patch, and are welcome to hop on board the American Star pirate boat located at the dock store. And kid-friendly musical entertainment will begin at noon with David Kyle and TVO and culminate with a 3:00 show by Katawompus, a trio of local high school students and winner of the Hangout Music Festival/John Lennon Educational Tour Bus contest this past spring.

While having fun, you will also be helping to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The full amount from the silent auction—including jewelry, condo stays, artwork, sailboat rides, office furniture and more—and raffles will be donated, as well as a percentage of the entire weekend’s receipts. With that in mind, stop first by the ATM or bring your checkbook so you can take home many wonderful items from the arts and crafts vendors, jewelry artisans and service providers.

Plan to stay the full day each day so you don’t miss any of the top-notch live music scheduled throughout the festival:

Friday
5:45—Sam Glass Band
8:00—Vibe Irie
10:00—Reed Lightfoot (sports bar)

Saturday
5:45—Ryan Balthrop and His Bowling Buddies
8:00—Honey Island Swamp Band
10:00—Mel Knapp (sports bar)

Sunday
5:45—Good Enough for Good Times
8:00—Grayson Capps & the Lost Cause Minstrels

Admission to Piratefest is just $5 per day or $10 for a weekend pass. Better yet, show up in a pirate costume and you’ll not only get in free, but you could win the costume contest and come away with a bounty of a Happy Harbor gift certificate: $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place or $50 for 3rd place.

You’ll find Happy Harbor at Sun Harbor Marina in Orange Beach, located on Marina Road next to Tacky Jack’s.
