By the way, it’s not too late to plan your weekend getaway at the beach. Let us help you find the perfect accommodations for 2 or 20. Bring Dad and save 20% near the beach! Or view our other SPECIALS and HOT DEALS and start packing for your trip to our beautiful island beaches.

WEEKEND ACTIVITIES

The Saltwater and Red Snapper Fishing Tournament is well underway and continues thru mid-August. Enter as an angler or part of a big or small boat. Or just enjoy viewing the local weigh-ins at Gulf Shores Yacht Club and Marina, or in Orange Beach at Orange Beach Marina, Outcast Marina, and Zeke’s Landing Marina.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival Kick-Off and Glow Event begins Thursday at 6 p.m. in Foley. If you haven’t attended a Glow Event before now, this is an opportunity to not only see the giant balloons, but talk with their owners and operators to learn more about how they operate.

SummerTide Theatre from the University of Alabama is in residence in Gulf Shores. Soak up the energy from the enthusiastic 1970s, Grammy-winning musical Godspell, performed by professional-quality college talent. Curtain is 8 p.m. nightly through July 3 (closed Monday nights).

Steely Dan performs at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at The Amphitheater at The Wharf in Orange Beach. For a ticket price that starts at $32, you will hear favorite songs such as “Reelin’ In the Years,” “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Hey Nineteen.”

Tanger Outlet Center opens its popular Balloon Festival Sidewalk Sale. Shop at more than 120 outlet stores to find all the bargains you can imagine, and more. Apparel footwear, housewares/home furnishings, and numerous specialty stores supply great variety for shoppers. While there, grab a bite to eat and let the children cool off at the fountain.

The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival jumps into its first full day of events on Friday, beginning at 8 a.m. and closing at 10 p.m. The fun continues from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Friday evening’s musical headliner is Tip Tops (7 until 10 p.m.). Saturday evening highlights Cheyenne from 6-9:45 p.m., followed by fireworks to light up the night sky. Along with live & DJ musical entertainment throughout each day, you’ll find the Children’s Village, train rides, multiple performances by the world-famous Disc-Connected K9’s Frisbee Dogs, and plenty of artisan booths, displays, and food. The event is free, and parking is free but limited, so take advantage of the FREE shuttle service from two locations from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Don’t forget that this Sunday, June 21, is Father’s Day. Bring Dad to the beach, to a concert, to a theater production, to a balloon competition or to a fishing tournament, or buy him a gift during the sidewalk sale. Whatever you decide to do, make it something truly special to show him how much he is appreciated.
